In a momentous occasion, the College of Nursing Sciences, Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Ogbomoso, celebrated a historic milestone with its first-ever matriculation ceremony, inducting 122 pioneer students into its newly accredited National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) Nursing programs.
Held within the College premises, the vibrant ceremony opened with a grand procession of academic staff, Heads of Departments, and principal officers, setting a tone of reverence, pride, and hope for the future.
In his welcome address, Mr. S. O. Ogunlowo, Acting Provost, reflected on the College's illustrious heritage of over four decades, during which it has produced thousands of distinguished nurses. He emphasized the institution’s strong foundations of discipline, holistic development, and academic excellence, stating that the new ND and HND programs are nationally and internationally recognized.
Mr. Ogunlowo reminded the matriculating students that "nursing is more than a profession; it is a divine calling to serve humanity," urging them to embrace their training with seriousness and humility.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor S. A. Adegoke, Chief Medical Director of BUTH and Chairman, College of Nursing Sciences Management Committee, congratulated the students and praised the efforts of past leaders, Dr. O. G. He urged the new students to aim for excellence, emphasizing that success is built on discipline, collaboration, hard work, and spiritual grounding. Professor Adegoke reassured them of the institution’s support every step of the way.

She stressed the core values of nursing: compassion, diligence, humility, and teamwork. Mrs. Alagbe warned against distractions, especially the misuse of mobile phones, and advised the students to cultivate discipline, self-development, and obedience.
"A nurse must be caring, humble, and service-oriented," she declared, urging them to stay focused, remember their core values, and maintain a positive attitude throughout their training.
A motivational session was delivered by Dr. Y. T. Olasinde, an Associate Professor, who shared the secrets of academic and professional success.
He emphasized that discipline is the backbone of any meaningful achievement, defining it not as punishment but as self-regulation, time management, respect for rules and authorities, and collaboration.
He urged students to view discipline as a personal asset and a key ingredient for excellence, especially in a demanding profession like nursing.
